ClientEarth’s legal work on UK pollution and highlighting the risks climate change poses to the financial world has received recognition at the national Sustainable City Awards.

It comes at the end of a week in which our lawyers gave the UK government 10 days to improve its air quality plans – or face renewed legal action.

Last night, ClientEarth was named “Winner of winners” at the awards in London. The awards were established in 2001 and attract around 250 applications per year, from small firms and charities to multi-national banks and corporations.

ClientEarth was also delighted to win the Air Quality category and runner- up in the Sustainable Finance category, for our work on establishing climate change as a material financial risk.

The awards, established by the City of London 15 years ago, were held at Mansion House and hosted this year by the London Sustainability Exchange (LSX). They recognise those “leading by example”, as host Alderman Dame Fiona Woolf DBE put it, with their commitment to sustainable development and everyday life in an urban setting.

ClientEarth CEO James Thornton said: “We’re honoured to win these awards. At its heart, all of our work is designed to create more sustainable societies. We’re setting global precedents on air quality issues, and questions of sustainable investment and we’re delighted at this recognition of our efforts and achievements.”

Other winners on the night included Siemens’ revolutionary building The Crystal, Deutsche Bank and Nomura.
